Françoise Gilot has said on many occasions that red is her favorite color. This is evident in the varying shades of red throughout the paintings installed in our current exhibition.
Ranging from figurative to abstract works, this exhibition, serving as a retrospective of the past 70 years, shows paintings from private collections and Gilot’s own personal collection.
Born in France in 1921, Gilot studied art, philosophy, literature and law, but always returned to her true passion - art. Gilot had her first exhibition in Paris in1943 and has maintained an illustrious career since that time. Her work resides in major museums and private collections. Her 1964 book “Life with Picasso” has been recently re-released. As well, over the past year, articles about her work have been featured in the New York Times, The New Yorker and this month she is featured with six-pages in the Harper’s Bazaar UK Art Issue.
